Your invention or your idea is yours and you should benefit from it. You can protect your idea by patenting it. A patent can protect your invention long enough for you to market it and benefit from it.
A patent lasts for a certain length of time ( approx 20 years ) and offers you a set of exclusive rights in exchange for the public disclosure of your invention. Your patent is usually granted by the government department within a country’s jurisdiction and the extent of the exclusive rights vary widely between countries according to national laws and international agreements.
Typically, however, a patent application for an invention, must include one or more claims stating how the invention is new, inventive, and useful or industrially applicable. In most countries, the patent offers the right to prevent others from making, using, selling, or distributing the patented invention without your permission.
Initially, you would patent your invention in your own country but if you want to produce and market your product worldwide you would need to register your patent in every other country. This makes the patent valid for up to 20 yrs providing you register every year after the first 4 yrs from the date which the patent was granted.
Always protect your ideas and deter your competition from profiting from all your hard work.
